Don’t neglect your kitchen window treatments! Most likely, you spend a lot of time in your kitchen while cooking, cleaning, preparing, eating and entertaining, so it’s a great idea to keep your window treatments looking fresh. Many times kitchens have sliding glass doors, small windows over the kitchen sink and/or skylights to let in natural light. Each and every one of these windows should be considered for window treatments!
Sliding glass door window shades
The sliding glass door options may seem limited, but there are actually a number of ways to cover your windows. Think about draperies or even motorized draperies that can open and close with the touch of a button. Many choose
venetian blinds to cover their sliding glass door as you can open and close them when needed or let in a little bit of light when you want too.
Kitchen sink window
The kitchen sink window is one that can be customized. Depending on the size of your window, you can create a light, bright feeling in your kitchen. Honeycomb shades are often used over the sink, but can pose problems if you tend to splash around a lot with your dishes. The soap and water may cause stains on the fabric if the shades are left down, so keep that in mind. You may also think to use draperies and hang them around the window. Most likely, you will have to cut off some of the bottom, but you can get creative. Folding shades are often used over kitchen windows too. The same thing would be considered as if you were choosing honeycomb shades since folding shades are fabric as well.
Skylight shades
A lot of times, skylight shades are left alone if they are in the kitchen. Since most kitchens don’t have electronics the glare isn’t a concern. Kitchens welcome natural light and skylights can be a great accent!
Most importantly, there are so many ways to customize your kitchen window treatments. Use color, use fabric, use eco-friendly shades over your sliding glass door; there are so many options.
